Tap dance is a style based around creating sounds with your feet to a variety of rhythms. These rhythms begin with basic and gradually become far more complicated as more sounds are made in less time and rhythms become syncopated and advanced.
In order to create these rhythms and sounds a dancer has to articulate specific parts of the foot by transferring the body weight between different parts of the foot and between the two legs.
Tap dance is often a stage style of dance and can be seen in musicals such as Top Hat, 42nd Street and A Chorus Line.
